Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids which means our bodies are incapable of making them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hence, they must be provided for though the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are mad up of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). The essential fatty acids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], EPA and DHA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], are primarily found in fatty fish,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as salmon. Alternatively, ALA is found in flaxseed, walnuts, and soybeans. Typically, vegetarians depend on flax seed oil as a source of omega-3 fatty acids. Unfortunately, flax oil only contains ALA and does not consist of EPA or DHA. Even though ALA can be converted into EPA and DHA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this conversion is extremely ineffective. In fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], only 5% of ALA is converted into EPA and only 0.5% of ALA can be converted to DHA. This is terrible news for vegetarians that depend on flax as their source of omega-3 fatty acids. The reason this process is inefficient is because the enzyme doing the conversion, delta-6-desaturase, is rate limiting. Delta-6-desaturase also competitively binds to omega-6 fatty acids, thus, making it less available to bind to ALA.

The good news is that algae oil is a very strong source of DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids. How is algae oil a good source of omega-3 for vegetarians? Marine algae, such as zooplankton and phytoplankton are actually the primary source of DHA and EPA. The marine fish eat the algae and then store the omega-3’s in their fat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is why fish oil has such a high amount of both DHA and EPA. DHA derived from algae is now commercially available and has similar health benefits as DHA derived from fish oil. Some algae are also high in EPA, ie. Nannochloropsis sp. and Spirulina,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but, EPA-rich microalgae oil is still limited. DHA-microalgae oil is obviously a better source of DHA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], compared to flax seed oil. This is because there are two more enzymatic conversions your body must perform to get to DHA from ALA.
The answer is yes. Several studies that have shown that eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid derived from fish oil both have cardiovascular benefits. Similarly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], DHA from algae oil also has the same cardiovascular benefits. In one study, vegetarians that supplemented with 1 gram of algae oil a day, decreased their triglyceride levels by 23%, after eight weeks (The British Journal of Nutrition 95 (4): 779-786). Microalgae oil is such a great source of omega-3 fatty acids for all vegetarians.
Vegetarians with low levels of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, supplemented with 1 gram of algae derived DHA per day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and significantly elevated their levels of both DHA and EPA after eight weeks (Lipids 40 (: 807-814). This is evidence that DHA derived from microalgae is a much more potent source of DHA and EPA compared to ALA derived from flax oil. So now that you know DHA from algae oil is an exceedingly better vegetarian source of omega-3 fatty acids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], does it have the same health benefits as fish oil?

So...it's really OK to sit in the sun? Acne is a skin condition that affects 90% of the population at some point during their life cycle. It is unsightly, embarrassing and unattractive. Acne occurs as a result of blockage in the follicle of our pores. As a result our skin becomes irritated causing a pimple which is usually large, red and very unpleasant. Most people’s reaction to acne especially when it appears out of nowhere is to immediately pop it. However, popping your pimples can cause scarring on your skin and what people don’t realize is that once acne has formed it has already created scarring within the deeper layers of skin.
The body is a modern miracle within itself that has its own immune system. The immune system defends the body against foreign substances and keeps the system from being attacked. When acne metabolizes in a blocked follicle the immune system is trigger to send an inflammatory response. Although,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the inflammatory response is the body’s way of defending itself against acne it can also cause damage to the skin.

1. Who’s paying the coach? It is my recommendation that you personally retain the coach or use company funds that are under your discretionary control. You want someone whom you can trust implicitly, and whose loyalty is pledged to you and you alone. If the coach is being paid for by the board of directors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or company investors, then while you will likely still receive good advice, the coach’s loyalty will reside with someone other than you.
4. What does the coach charge for his/her services? Remember, you get what you pay for…If your coach is only charging a few hundred dollars a month then that is likely representative of the caliber of advice you’ll receive. If your total annual compensation is well into the six or seven figures then you can afford to (actually you can’t not afford to) retain the services of a top ceo coach.
Executives who rise to the C-suite do so largely based upon their ability to consistently make sound decisions. The reality is that in today’s competitive business world an executive is only as good as his/her last decision, or their ability to stay ahead of contemporaries and competitors.

While my personal practice is somewhat limited in terms of the type and number of clients I work with we have other coaches that can assist you or I can provide you with referrals to other professionals outside of our firm. As the CEO the reality is that you have no true peers within the business, so where do you turn for advice and counsel? If you’re like many CEOs you turn to your subordinates…This is not where you should seek unbiased information as it is unlikely that your subordinates will tell you the hard truths or provide you with open candid criticism of your actions. They are certainly not in a position to hold you accountable or most times even provide you with intellectually challenging input.
2. Is your coach qualified? Remember that the coaching industry is full of practitioners that paid a few hundred dollars for a professional designation, but yet have little or no real experience. Make sure that your coach not only possesses a track record,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but that their skill sets and competencies are relevant to your needs.

The only thing CEOs can count on is that their performance is constantly being evaluated by virtually everyone in the value chain. Combine that with the fact that performance standards and expectations are constantly being raised, and it is no wonder that CEOs often feel overwhelmed. Consumers rely on labels to tell them what's inside the product. But what if supplement labels are not accurate or misleading? How can you tell if you're actually getting a supplement that matches label specifications? In fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unless a product has been tested by a third party lab, you can never be too sure about what’s inside your supplement. Such was the case of 21 percent of the prostate supplements tested by Consumer Lab in 2009.
One supplement contained none of the saw palmetto on their label claim; another had only 69.2 percent of its beta sitosterol claim; and two prostate supplements failed to adhere to Food and Drug Administration labeling requirements since they did not list the part of the saw palmetto plant that was used. The muscles on the other hand, tap directly into their glycogen stores for energy production.

Blood glucose is the main fuel source for the brain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so I’m sure you can appreciate why it’s pretty important. As intensity increases,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], muscle glycogen is increasingly used. Blood glucose use also increases slightly. However, to offset its usage and to maintain stable blood sugar levels (for the vital organs),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the liver breaks down its glycogen stores into glucose for the blood.
Depending on the duration and intensity of the exercise, your body will rely on more complex carbohydrates (stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver) and fatty acids for its fuel.

As you become fitter your body will become more efficient at using fats for fuel while sparing your vital carbohydrate reserves. Someone who is totally unfit will obviously fatigue sooner, one of the reasons being that their carbohydrate stores are more quickly dissolved and utilized. They are by far the best way to burn calories and thus fat - not during the workout (as you'll see on many cardio machine screens) but after the workout. Some studies have shown that the body's metabolic rate can stayed elevated for up to 16 hours after just 20 minutes of interval running,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!
The point is that your body chooses different fuels during different situations. Because fats yield more calories and are slower burning as they are metabolized,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they tend to be used over longer durations when compared to carbohydrates. An energy upgrade can do more than just trim energy costs. It can help boost productivity, reduce maintenance costs and improve overall facility performance. But success is far from assured. When planning and carrying out an energy project, the facility executive must avoid common pitfalls that can doom a project before it even gets under way.
Before doing anything else, the facility executive should understand the financial aspects of the project. Most finance departments view the facility group as spenders of money rather than producers of money. An energy upgrade project can reverse that perception. Seize the opportunity to communicate the idea to the chief financial executive.
First, determine if the contemplated project is being done on a “capital” or “performance” basis. A capital project entails spending company money and needs to be budgeted accordingly. Myriad financial hurdles need to be analyzed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including costs, benefits and return on investment. Will the project involve spending company cash or will some or all portions of the project be financed? If the latter, will it be traditional financing, a capital lease or an operating lease?
The facility executive should work closely with the organization’s financial group as the project is planned. That way, the facility executive is part of a team as the financing rationale is being formulated by the accounting department.
The facility executive can expect such comments as, “Why do we have to fix or replace the lights, boiler, or HVAC systems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], etc.? They work just fine.” The reason is that the project will improve the bottom line and create positive cash flow with solid return on investment. Before saying this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however, the facility executive should be well aware of the financial hurdles and return-on-investment marks that the financial officer will be using to analyze the project.
The second financing model, being used more and more in recent years, is the performance-based energy upgrade project. In that approach, the contractor or energy service company (ESCO) is compensated based on performance (with performance being measured as energy and savings),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in some cases guaranteeing that energy savings will result from the upgrade initiative. These guaranteed savings are then used to pay all project costs. Generally, these projects require a long-term service agreement with the contractor to be put in place, with the guarantee validated from year to year.
Performance-based financing mechanisms can take several forms. The project capitalization value can be either on balance sheet or off balance sheet.
Of course, in a performance-based upgrade with guaranteed savings, the contractor or ESCO will charge for taking on the risk that savings will not be as high as anticipated and will have its own overhead and margins to cover. As a result,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], projects of this nature will generally cost more over the long term than traditional capital projects; that is,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the contractor or ESCO will keep a portion of the energy savings to cover those costs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as the costs of planning the upgrade and installing the new equipment. A company that can fund an upgrade itself will maximize savings; if funds are available, that’s clearly the best choice. Nevertheless, a performance-based approach is often a very effective way to get energy upgrades accomplished.
There are four basic kinds of performance contractors or ESCOs: those tied to utilities, equipment vendors, mechanical and electrical contractors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or independent engineering firms (consulting/developer based). Performance contracting is a highly competitive arena with marketing sizzle and aggressive savings offerings as the norm. A performance contract can serve an organization very well if critical details in contract negotiation and financing are handled carefully.
Of course, financing is only one element that has to be considered in planning. A good project plan includes a clear statement of vision, goals, objectives and methodology, along with a simple cost-benefit schedule that describes how much money will be spent and what benefits will be achieved.
Inviting Help
Initially, the plan should be packaged as an executive-summary type report for presentation to the financial group. By labeling the first version of the plan a draft, the facility executive invites the finance department to help shape the project — a good way to build an alliance and gain buy-in before requesting formal project approval and financing.
A clear, concise plan, approximately three pages, will illustrate and highlight the financial return or savings associated to the project. In the first version, don’t include any cost-benefit analysis or return-on-investment schedules — the idea is to solicit help from the financial officer in this process and, in the best scenario, get his or her help with the project.
Because the goal is to present energy savings as revenue rather than expense, be sure to capture operational savings beyond energy costs. The project will have an operations budget that will likely be established from a previous year’s expenditure; from the perspective of a financial officer, that baseline operational budget is somewhat fixed or a given. If the facility executive can show that an upgrade will reduce this baseline operational budget, the financial reality is that the savings will go directly to the bottom line or will minimally go into an “other income” category on the balance sheet.
The secret is to not give away all of the potential savings: Some should be reserved or scheduled into an incentive or reserve fund to be used for other project initiatives that may not necessarily reduce energy costs, but may improve the business environment or facility portfolio.
There’s another reason not to build the maximum proposal savings into a proposal: Projects rarely achieve the greatest savings that seem possible on paper. If the facility executive promises that maximum level of savings — and the financial officer builds it into the budget — any shortfall could make the project a failure from a financial perspective,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no matter how much money it actually saves. I wish they had returns like the lighting project.”
Many energy upgrade projects focus strictly on lighting. While this approach certainly will result in a winning project, many times a great opportunity is lost because the lighting initiative isn’t integrated with other energy upgrade projects. The facility executive should consider bundling the lighting upgrade with other measures and build a larger project.
One reason this integrated approach isn’t taken, say many facility executives, is that management won’t approve more money for the other projects. But companies are sometimes willing to expand the budget if a good plan is presented with the budget ramifications for bundling, or if both a capital and performance-based budget are presented. Facility executives who do lighting work as a stand alone and then undertake other energy upgrades afterwards risk being seen by the financial side of the organization as a constant drain on capital reserves or budgets.
Control and Monitoring
When energy upgrades are not monitored and tracked, the initial savings often dwindle over time. In most cases, it’s a combination of small things: temperature set points that are overridden and never reset, or lights that are left on longer. But whatever the causes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the end results are too often the same: The absence of a verification mechanism and lack of interest in validating economies means that costs creep up. The control and automation system in place is the most effective process for validating and monitoring performance. But that system has an even more important role: turning things off.

More and more, the facility department is expected to be a business unit as opposed to a service unit. That seems completely appropriate, given the range of contributions the facility can make to the bottom line. No matter what the title, the time has clearly come for the facility executive to be part of the top management team. But the facility executive has to take the initiative. An energy upgrade is a good place to start.

We have to have water or some type of cleaning liquid or powder. We have to have energy and motivation. To clean our minds, we have to have God’s tools. We need to put on His armor. We need to read His word. We need to go to Him in the good times and bad.
